Protect the Long Term Health of your Teeth and Gum with Braces

Braces are an orthodontic treatment that aim to re position teeth and improve the overall appearance and long-term health of your teeth, gums and jaw joints.
Adult braces are often made from plastic and ceramic rather than metal, and they can be either removable, or fixed.
Removable Brace– This is a plate that can be taken out daily for cleaning. Delicate wires and springs attached to the plate move the teeth using gentle pressure.
Fixed Brace– This is used when teeth need a little more guidance. The fixed brace is temporarily stuck to your teeth, and the teeth are moved by flexible wire and brackets.

What are invisible braces?

Invisible braces are made from clear plastic, making them practically invisible. One set of plastic aligner moulds straighten your teeth over a two-week period, before being swapped out for another mould.
Invisible braces are word for approximately 22 hours a day for best results and need to be removed for eating, drinking and cleaning.

Do you need Braces?

Braces aim to re position teeth and improve the overall appearance and long-term of your teeth, gums and jaw joints. If you have crocked teeth that are ruining your good smile, chances are your over-all health could also be compromised. When upper and lower teeth are straining to align correctly, your jaw muscles can be over worked and cause headaches and discomfort. Braces work to re-align your teeth for a more comfortable bite and a brighter smile.

Are you a good candidate for braces?

To determine whether you are a good candidate for orthodontic treatment, you will need a full examination with an Orthodontist. Dental x-rays, and plaster models of your teeth will help them to propose a treatment plan. If you have permanent teeth that are crowding the jaw line, these may need to be removed. Then if you are left with enough permanent teeth, the procedure will go ahead.

How long do you have to wear braces?

For the treatment to be effective, your teeth will need to be held in place for a specific period. Your braces are adjusted by your Orthodontist every four to six weeks during this time
Every individual jawline has different problems and needs. Some only need braces for a few months, some up to two years.
In addition, once the braces are removed a retainer is used for some time to allow the surrounding gum and bone time to settle.
The results of the treatment are dependent on the Orthodontist, but also the commitment of the patient.

Caring for Teeth with Braces

Extra care needs to be taken with your teeth and mouth during your time with braces.
• Brush your teeth carefully twice day.
• Reduce consumption of sugary foods and drinks.
• Avoid sticky and hard foods that may damage or break your braces.
